2-Year Old Preschool Class

We have Jesus Time with stories, songs and prayer every day. We will work on language, arts, sensory play, and music will be integrated in our activities. Becoming self-sufficient is an important goal for your child. We will work on this goal by classroom jobs. We will work with your child on self-regulating skills such as learning to go potty, cleaning up and finishing classroom projects etc.

We will be using different behavior modification techniques including redirections, “time away”. We also have classroom rules (see attached).

                                        Classroom Rules:

1. We will help not hurt.

2. We will care for people, places, and things.

3. We will make good choices.

3-Year Old Preschool Class

Our curriculum covers basic math, science, arts, language, literature and music.   We introduce the alphabet and prepare them for our pre-K class.  It is an important goal to help children to become self-sufficient.  Sonshiners work hard toward becoming independent by taking on classroom jobs, learning to make their beds and practicing self-regulating skills.  To promote good behavior, the Sonshiners are taught classroom rules, participate in outdoor and indoor safety activities and practice problem solving skills.  This is just a few things we do.

4-5 year old Pres-K class  also known as a Transitional Kindergarten Class

The Rainbow class is a pre-k class in which children have to be four by October 1st.  Most of your children will move on to kindergarten next year and some of you may want your children to stay another year, depending on your situation. Our main goal is to get your child(ren) ready for kindergarten (name writing, knows sound and can recognize ABC’S, count to 100, shows an interest in writing and reading, Etc.).  We will be using an assessment called DRDP (Desired Results Developmental Profile). You can also find this assessment on the California Department of Education web site.  We will also be working in our journals weekly.  With this assessment the students are tracked from month to month to assess their social, cognitive and physical domains.  This will help us to know what areas we need to work on in the class.  I will share any specific concerns with you as they occur.  In the spring we will set up a parent teacher conference to share our observations.  Teaching your children is a privilege for which we thank god for.  We are anxious to work with you to help your child have a successful year and prepare them for kindergarten.
